From “Letters to Jaden”
You get playful and cheeky as I am dressing you
As your knees wobble while I pull pants on you
You keep putting your head on my shoulder
Then you’d hop on with both of your legs
Clasping me like a monkey clinging.
You have grown taller and heavier
Then you start sliding unless I
Stop to catch you before your
Legs hit the ground. Then
I would yell at you to
“Stand up straight!”
One day I know
You’ll no longer
Hug my neck
Like you do
Now
And
When
That Day
Comes, What
I wouldn’t Give if
I could only Get back
Today when you are young and
When you’d come to snuggle up to me
All that you want, and what I wouldn’t give to
Keep this precious and profound feeling of Love in my heart.
Note: I deliberately made this in the shape of an hour glass that, right now, has more time at the top of the funnel than at the bottom, but as we all know about our time with our young children, they all grow up too fast for us parents.
