Fired and Fully Deserving Unemployment

What do you think about a 25 year old woman who spends company time writing on her company’s computer about how much money she is making with how little she is working?

According to this Denver news website, that’s exactly what Emmalee Bauer has been getting away with. A judge denied her unemployment because Ms. Bauer’s journal showed proof of Ms. Bauer’s refusal of work and her glee at getting away with it.

Ms. Bauer was told by her supervisor to stop journaling on company time. So she went to the computer instead. For a while, she managed to look productive while typing up 300, single-spaced pages on her journal.

When I was actively journaling, I was producing over 100 single-spaced pages of material. I thought my life was pretty “happening”. For someone who was barely working, I am amazed that Ms. Bauer churned out 300 pages of stuff.

If one wanted to steal from the company – that’s what taking company salary but not putting out the work is – I suppose one could come up with all sorts of things to write about. Maybe she has enough material for a novel and sell that to make a honest living.

Now that Ms. Bauer’s name is all over the web, I’m curious what employer would take a risk at employing her.

She may be trying to collect unemployment money from the state.
