Once upon a time,
I lusted after stardom,
Get people to like me -
Better yet – to love me!
I pleased and appeased
I built up some fame
I bolstered my name
And left my soul
Out of the game.
Once upon a time,
I chased after success,
Show people I’m all that -
And better than them!
I sprinted, go-get’ted
I collected trophies
I trumpeted glories
And left my voice
Out of the stories.
Once upon a time,
I slowed to stillness,
I said no to pleasing
I said no to showing
I stopped to listen
To face what was missing
To reclaim my voice and
Soul in Significance.
You know what’s funny?
In the deafening silence
of a soul in significance,
I saw stars in the sky,
reminding me why
I have come into this world,
that no chase was needed
when I have arrived.
