Loss and Gain

by Jane Chin

An act of cellular violence
This physiological warfare
Shedding ruddiness of skin
Sheen of soft hair
Sturdiness of body
Strips away illusion
Of what strength means
Of how beauty appears
Of where the soul lives
Steadying my eyes to
Love that binds us
For all eternity.

To the dad of a 3 year old child who lost hair to cancer.

I shared this poem on my blog (http://eimana.tumblr.com).  As I said there, to think that such a deep connection (i.e. inspiring you to write poetry) could be made by the simple act of posting a reflection on my experience with my daughter’s loss of hair in the “virtual world” of social media is something to take note of.

Thank you again.
