Website Review: Diversity Jobs Network
I’ve been commissioned to do a review of the Diversity Jobs Network website. I’ve spent a couple of days browsing through the website, which uses a Beyond.com career portal software. DiversityJobsNetwork.com wants to be “the best place to search jobs and identify companies that are interested in a diverse workforce.” It has good content organization, which I like. In addition to posting your resume and searching for jobs, you can browse through topics like personality tests, resume writing help, career videos, and articles and blogs.
My main recommendation for the website is to include content that is unique to DiversityJobsNetwork.com. Right now it appears that the website articles are syndicated, and all the articles may be found from all Beyond.com portal websites. In fact, I visited the main Beyond.com website and found the exact content. I don’t know if adding unique content is possible, but it will help differentiate this website from other Beyond.com driven websites “beyond” just the unique domain name.
My second recommendation may not be implementable, because this may simply be the way that the career portal software is set up. I noticed that most of the “resources” listed are links to affiliate offers and therefore serves as lead generators for other businesses. This may not bode well with job seekers, even if they can sign up for a myriad of free magazines.
My third recommendation is to check the validity of the job links that jobseekers use to apply for jobs. When I tested the “search jobs” function, I found that there are links that are more like affiliate links to another job portal requiring me to pay a fee to apply to a job. When I tested another link to “apply to job”, it opened up to the employer’s website, but not to a job page. This can cause confusion and frustration for a jobseeker.
There are advantages to using an off the shelf career portal, but everyone – including job seekers – like a unique experience when visiting a website. DiversityJobsNetwork.com may want to consider ways to give its users a different and therefore memorable experience.
